It is our goal at Monarch to provide families with the skills and resources necessary to
bring the student home - or to the least structured environment possible - as quickly as
is reasonable. Aftercare plays a role toward achieiving your family's goals. Whether that
aftercare is delivered through Monarch or other services/providers, it is critical that
the family receive ongoing and consistent follow-up care. The pursuit of individual and family emotional
health and well being is a life long process. The period of time after your child returns home
is simply the next step in your commitment to this process and to one another.
The focus of the aftercare program is based on helping to make sure that the transition of
the child back into the home is as productive as possible. Everyone in the family will have been
affected by their experience at Monarch, and the new family environment needs to reflect
those changes. As a result, the aftercare program is designed to help families with this
process of establishing a new standard of living in their homes.
The Main Components of Aftercare
- Alumni Groups
- Weekend Retreats
- Intensive Aftercare Therapy
Alumni Groups:
Alumni group events, held monthly, offer opportunities for families to support and
learn from one another. Oftentimes parents in crisis believe they are struggling
alone with their issues and never reach out for or receive support from their
peers, which creates a feeling of isolation. Multi-family alumni groups create a natural
environment for bringing that sense of isolation to an end. Many of the same
families who went through multi-family groups with you when your child was in
the wilderness program will likely be attending the aftercare multi-family groups,
providing a sense of community and consistency for you and your child.

Weekend Retreats:
Summer and winter retreats in Colorado are an opportunity for families to recreate
together in the outdoors as well as continue multi-family therapy.

Intensive Aftercare Therapy:
The Monarch Center also has very close relationships with many Gestalt therapists. If you
feel that continued intensive therapy is required, please let us know and we'd be happy to
provide you with a list of recommended Gestalt therapists and their contact info.
