The setting for the backcountry phase is in the following areas: the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Arizona, New Mexico and South Dakota. The Monarch Center for Family Healing annually receives permission and permits for these areas from the United States Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management offices and the National Park Service. This access affords us the opportunity to explore hundreds of thousands of acres during our experiential and educational pursuits.

• The Monarch Center is a member of NATSAP (National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs).
• The Monarch Center is licensed as a Residential Child Care Facility and Children's Camp by the State Department of Human Services.
• A certified dietician has reviewed and approved the meals that the students eat, assuring proper nutrition.
• A certified Wilderness First Responder and/or Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician is in the field at all times.
• A licensed therapist oversees our Clinical Department; all of our therapists possess their Masters in either Social Work or Counseling; and a psychiatrist oversees all medication-related issues.
• The Monarch Center is a member of the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Industry Council (OBHIC), and the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Research Council (OBHRC).
• The Monarch Center is associated with the Association of Experiential Education (AEE)
• The Monarch Center is a member of NATWC (National Assoc. of Therapeutic Wilderness Camps).
